Advocate Haamid Bhat, President of the Kashmir Bar Association, has strongly condemned the recent brutal attack in Bangladesh in which a Hindu man was lynched, beaten to death, and his body tied to a tree and set on fire. This heinous act of violence against a member of the Hindu community is utterly intolerable, deeply reprehensible, and a gross violation of fundamental human rights.
The victim, identified as Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old Hindu garment worker in Mymensingh district, was allegedly attacked by a mob following unverified accusations of blasphemy. After being assaulted, his body was burned in a horrifying display that has sparked outrage both domestically and internationally.
Advocate Haamid Bhat stated, “Such acts of violence against any individual or community on the basis of religion are unacceptable in any civilized society. The safety, dignity, and religious freedom of every human being must be upheld without discrimination.” He emphasized that targeting minorities undermines the rule of law and erodes the foundations of justice and human dignity.
He also urged the authorities in Bangladesh to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly and transparently and to ensure the protection of minority communities. “There must be zero tolerance for mob violence, communal hatred, and actions that threaten peaceful coexistence.”
Advocate Haamid Bhat called upon the international community, human rights organizations, and democratic institutions to take serious note of this incident and work together to uphold the rights and safety of all religious and ethnic minorities. He reiterated that the Kashmir Bar Association stands firmly for communal harmony, religious freedom, and the rule of law, and will continue to speak out against injustice wherever it occurs.
