Anantnag: Anwar Famda, President of the Kokernag Constituency of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), has been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to District Jail Bhaderwah, official sources said on Sunday.
Famda, according to sources, was detained by the police on November 14, 2025, in connection with an incident at Hangalgund. He was accused of creating a disturbance at a police station and getting into a quarrel with members of a Gujjar section.
Following the incident, a case was registered against him vide FIR No. 121/2025 under Sections 126(2), 109 and 309 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After his arrest, Famda, the sources said, was produced before the court and subsequently sent to judicial remand. He was lodged in District Jail Anantnag.
Later, the district administration placed him under preventive detention in terms of the Public Safety Act. The detention order was issued vide Order No. DMA/PSA/DET/2025 dated December 1, 2025.
Sources further said that on December 19, 2025, Anwar Famda was shifted from District Jail Anantnag to District Jail Bhaderwah for further detention under the PSA.
No official statement has been issued by the party so far in connection with the detention. (GNS)
