Budgam Court Sentences Man to 20 Years for Child Sexual Assault

Budgam, Oct 6 (KNT): The Principal Sessions Judge of Budgam has sentenced Zahid Ahmad Parra, a resident of Chrar-i-Sharief, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl. The judgment marks a major success for Budgam Police in its efforts to combat crimes against children.

The conviction relates to FIR No. 55/2023, registered under Sections 363 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Following a detailed trial, the court found the accused guilty of abduction and sexual assault.

Officials said Budgam Police conducted a thorough investigation, resulting in a strong prosecution case that led to the conviction. A senior police officer said the verdict demonstrates the department’s determination to protect children and ensure strict punishment for offenders.

The police commended the investigating team for their professionalism and reiterated their zero-tolerance policy toward crimes involving minors. They urged citizens to report any cases of child abuse or exploitation immediately.
