Couple Hit by Unknown Vehicle in Srinagar Outskirts, Both Husband and Wife Die, Driver Arrested

Srinagar, Sept 19, KNT: A pedestrian couple from Umerabad HMT area of Srinagar met with a tragic road accident on Thursday late evening, resulting in the death of a woman and this morning her husband, after both were hit by a speeding vehicle. The incident occurred at Umerabad HMT when the couple was reportedly crossing the road and was struck by the vehicle.

The injured were immediately shifted to JVC Hospital Bemina, where doctors declared the woman, identified as 50-year-old Fahmeeda, wife of Bashir Ahmad of Umerabad HMT, dead on arrival. She had sustained severe head trauma. Her husband, 55-year-old Bashir Ahmad, was referred from JVC Hospital to SKIMS Soura in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Friday morning.

According to family members, the couple was crossing the road when they were hit by the vehicle, which fled the spot. However, police said that swift action led to the arrest of the driver and the seizure of the vehicle involved in the accident.

A police officer confirmed to KNT that legal formalities have been initiated, and further investigations are underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident. [KNT]
