The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) has instructed the Assistant Director of Tourism, Gulmarg, to take possession of Hotel Nedou’s along with the adjoining land, currently under unauthorized occupation.
The directive comes in compliance with recent rulings by the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir. The Supreme Court had earlier dismissed a petition concerning the property, while the High Court ordered that the land and hotel be restored to government control.
In an official communication, the Chief Executive Officer of GDA has directed the Assistant Director of Tourism to evict the present occupants and ensure the property is handed over to the GDA within 24 hours.
Hotel Nedou’s in Gulmarg is one of the oldest and most iconic heritage properties in Kashmir, with a legacy dating back to the early 20th century. Nestled in the picturesque meadows of Gulmarg, the hotel has long been associated with colonial charm, elite tourism, and the early development of Gulmarg as a premier hill station. Once frequented by royals, diplomats, and renowned travelers, Hotel Nedou’s stands as a reminder of Kashmir’s rich cultural and hospitality history.
