In one of the most significant anti-narcotics operations in recent times, Jammu & Kashmir Police in Ganderbal, under the leadership of SSP Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), has delivered a major blow to organised drug trafficking networks by recovering cocaine worth over ₹10 crore in the international illicit market.
As part of a focused crackdown on high-value narcotics such as cocaine and heroin, Ganderbal Police intensified special naka checking operations on 08 December 2025, leading to the arrest of a drug peddler identified as Mohd Irfan Bhat, son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat, resident of Kharbagh Wakura, Ganderbal.
Following his arrest, FIR No. 200/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Ganderbal, and a detailed investigation was initiated.
Considering the seriousness of the case and the suspected wider network, SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS) constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of Addl. SP Ganderbal Shri Owaise Loun (JKPS). The investigation was spearheaded by SI Gulzar Hussain (I/C Police Post Shadipora), who carried out sustained and meticulous efforts to trace both backward and forward linkages of the drug syndicate.
Acting on court-issued search warrants, coordinated raids were conducted at multiple locations including Sumbal, Shadipora, Zakura, and other suspected hideouts.
In a major breakthrough, the police identified and detained another notorious drug peddler, Maqsood Hussain Khan, son of Abdul Majeed Khan, resident of Hazratbal, Srinagar, presently staying at Gooripora, Sanat Nagar. During searches conducted at his rented accommodation on the intervening night of 16/17 December 2025, police recovered two packets of cocaine-like substance weighing approximately one kilogram, estimated to be worth over ₹10 crore. A vehicle, mobile phones, and other electronic devices were also seized.
Police officials said that in-depth investigations are underway to establish the source, supply chain, and possible inter-state and international linkages of the seized narcotics. More arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days.
