“Jailed MP Engineer Rashid to Stage Hunger Strike in Tihar, Protesting Denial of Kashmiri Rights”

Amid the ongoing political slugfest between the BJP and Congress over the 1975 Emergency and allegations of authoritarianism, jailed Member of Parliament and Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) President Engineer Rashid has announced that he will observe a 24-hour hunger strike inside Tihar Jail—from 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29—in protest against the continued denial of democratic rights to Kashmiris.
The hunger strike also aims to highlight the deafening silence of national parties on the plight of hundreds of Kashmiris languishing in Tihar and other prisons under draconian laws like the UAPA, merely for holding political beliefs.
According to AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi, Engineer Rashid conveyed his decision during a recent meeting with his family, asserting that the hypocrisy of both the BJP and Congress—as they accuse each other of suppressing democracy—must be exposed.
