Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, Interfaith Dialogue Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-E-Shian, stated that the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) must urgently broaden its research and community engagement efforts to better understand the religious and cultural sensibilities of the people it serves. Training police personnel in crowd management and sensitivity toward diverse beliefs is no longer optional—it is essential.
Supercopism cannot be allowed to override the rights and sentiments of an entire community. Law enforcement must operate within the framework of the law, not personal prejudice.
Aga Muntazir said, “Syed Hassan Nasrallah is widely regarded as a national figure in Lebanon and, in his spiritual capacity, he is also a respected religious figure for Muslims globally. Muharram, in particular, holds profound significance for Muslims as a period of mourning and tribute to Imam Hussain (AS), during which Islamic symbols are revered and displayed with deep emotion.”
Aga Syed Muntazir urged the top brass to investigate the matter impartially and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Upholding the constitutional right to religious freedom and ensuring justice is the only way to restore public confidence and prevent such incidents in the future.
