MMU Meeting Reaffirms Unity on Sanctity of Sahaba and Ahl al-Bayt, Forms Panel to Counter Sectarian Provocations

Srinagar | July 15, 2025

An important meeting of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU)—the representative umbrella body of major Sunni and Shia religious organisations in Jammu & Kashmir—was held in Srinagar to address the recent provocative and deeply irresponsible statements made by Mr. Imran Raza Ansari, the strong public response it evoked, and its fallout on social media.

The meeting was attended by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, Aga Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Molana Masroor Abbas Ansari, Aga Syed Mohammad Hadi, Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasmi, Molana Showkat Keng, Mufti Mohammad Yaqoob Baba, and Maulana Rahmatullah Qassimi, who joined later.

The MMU unanimously reaffirmed that the sanctity and honour of the revered Companions of the Prophet ﷺ (Sahaba) and the Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophet’s noble family) are foundational beliefs shared by all Muslims. These noble personalities are the pillars of Islamic unity and must be respected and revered by all.
