No-Confidence Motion Passed Against President – Interim Charge Handed Over to Election Board

The Sopore Media Association on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, brought a no-confidence motion against the recently elected President, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Dar, following his involvement in breaching the bylaws set forth by the Board, as well as his participation in illegal activities that promote hate and divide members.

Before filing the no-confidence motion, detailed discussions were conducted by the Board, and a thorough examination of all complaints received was undertaken. It was found that Mr. Shabir Ahmed Dar was involved in the cited violations.

After confirming his involvement in breaching the laws, the Board proceeded with the no-confidence motion, which was held today. All 31 members were formally informed through an official letter on Tuesday.

Following extensive discussions and a review of complaints alleging violations of the rules and procedures established by the Association’s Election Board, a vote was conducted among the members present today at Dak Bungalow, Sopore.

A total of 24 members voted in favor of the no-confidence motion against the president-elect, while 3 members abstained, and 4 were absent. This resulted in the removal of Mr. Shabir Ahmed Dar from the position of President.

The no-confidence motion was conducted in an orderly manner, and all proceedings have been officially recorded for documentation purposes.

In accordance with the Association’s constitution and guiding framework, it has been unanimously decided to dissolve the current leadership and reinstate the Election Board to take interim charge of the Association’s affairs.

The Election Board will now be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the Association and preparing for fresh elections.

It is important to note that the previous election was held on April 5, 2025, during which Mr. Shabir Ahmed Dar was elected as President with a winning margin of 9 votes against his opponent, Mr. Mehraj ud Din Lone.
