PDP Baramulla has demanded immediate clearance of snow from all vital roads and inner link roads, along with the restoration of electricity, drinking water and other essential services across District Baramulla, and urged the district administration to act without delay to provide relief to the suffering population.
PDP senior leader and District President Baramulla Mohd Rafique Rather has expressed grave concern over the prevailing situation in District Baramulla following the recent snowfall and demanded urgent intervention to restore normalcy. He said that he has been receiving distress calls from across the district from people who are stranded, living in darkness, and struggling without water and other basic necessities.
Rafique Rather said the people of Baramulla are facing severe hardships, with several areas remaining cut off, resulting in patients and their attendants being stranded on roads and unable to reach hospitals for emergency treatment and first aid. He termed the situation as deeply alarming and entirely avoidable had the administration acted in time.
Flaying the government, the PDP leader said that false promises, hollow announcements and tall claims of preparedness have once again fallen flat. Despite advance weather forecasts and advisories, there was no visible preparedness on the ground, exposing serious administrative failure and lack of coordination.
He said people are suffering for want of basic necessities such as electricity, potable water and road connectivity. Prolonged power outages have disrupted daily life, adversely affected education and trade, and posed serious risks to patients dependent on life-saving medical equipment.
While welcoming the snowfall as a blessing bestowed by Allah Almighty, Rafique Rather said such blessings should not be allowed to turn into misery for the people due to official apathy. He stressed that the government machinery should have remained on high alert, particularly in view of prior weather advisories.
Rafique Rather further hoped that the NC-led government will not once again take refuge in the excuse that the responsibility of restoring traffic, electricity, water supply and other essential services lies solely with the LG, a justification repeatedly used over the past one year. “The people of Baramulla want solutions, not blame-shifting,” he asserted.
He urged the district administration to act on a war footing, deploy adequate snow-clearance machinery, restore essential services immediately, and ensure smooth and unhindered movement of ambulances and emergency vehicles across District Baramulla.
Reiterating PDP’s commitment to stand with the people in difficult times, Rafique Rather warned that continued delay and negligence will only deepen public anger and further erode trust in governance.
