Ten soldiers killed, eleven injured in Bhaderwah Chamba road accident

Jammu: At least ten Army soldiers were killed and eleven others injured in a tragic road accident after an Indian Army  vehicle plunged into a deep gorge on the Bhaderwah Chamba interstate highway in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning, officials said.

According to officials, the accident occurred in the mountainous stretch of the highway when the vehicle, carrying Army personnel, skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge. The impact proved fatal for ten soldiers, while eleven others sustained injuries of varying severity.

Soon after the accident, rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched an operation to retrieve the injured and bodies from the gorge. The injured soldiers were shifted to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Officials said some of the injured are undergoing specialised medical care, while the condition of a few remains serious.

The Bhaderwah Chamba road is known for its narrow stretches, sharp turns and difficult terrain, particularly during winter months. Officials said adverse road conditions and terrain could have contributed to the accident, though the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.

Senior Army and civil administration officials visited the site and are monitoring the rescue and medical response. Further details are awaited as authorities continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident. [KNT]
