Class 11th, GHSS Delina Baramulla
A good subject is one that sharpens your mind, captures your interest, and helps you understand the world and its dynamics in a deeper way. It’s a subject you genuinely enjoy studying—one that feels more like a journey than a task.
For me, that subject is Political Science. The word “politics” is derived from the Greek word Polis, meaning city-state. Political Science is a social science in which we study the state, government, political power, public administration, self-governance, peace, conflict, war, elections, political behavior, international law, and much more.
It is often said that teachers play a vital role at every stage of learning. A student’s interest in a subject is largely shaped by the teacher’s dedication and teaching style. In my case, my fondness for Political Science is greatly influenced by Respected Qazi Syed Sajad Sir, the Senior Lecturer of Political Science at Government Higher Secondary School, Delina Baramulla.
I never imagined that the subject I once found dull would become my favorite. But Sir’s teaching style—his way of imparting knowledge—makes even the most complex topics simple and engaging. He connects classroom topics to real-life examples, making learning truly interesting and relevant. From the very first lecture, I realized that Political Science is not just a textbook subject; it is deeply connected to our everyday lives.
Political Science teaches us how to serve people, promote justice, and uphold the dignity of every citizen. It fills me with curiosity and excitement. Learning feels like a journey toward truth, justice, and equality. The subject is enjoyable and never feels like a burden because it is so closely related to real life.
Through Political Science, we understand how our government functions, how elections are held, what rights and duties citizens have, and the roles of the legislature, executive, and judiciary. We explore important concepts like federalism, secularism, social justice, freedom, and equality—all of which are essential for every Indian citizen to understand.
Unlike science, which follows fixed formulas, Political Science is a dynamic subject. It reflects all aspects of society and aims to bring positive change.
As for its career prospects, Political Science opens doors to several fields. It can lead one to become a politician, Prime Minister, journalist, lawyer, judge, IAS or KAS officer, among many other professions.
In a nutshell, Political Science is an interesting and intellectually stimulating subject that not only enhances understanding of the world but also offers a wide range of career opportunities. No wonder it is loved and admired by many students.
