SRINAGAR, May 6: The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) has strongly called for an impartial and time-bound investigation into the alleged custodial death of Imtiaz Ahmad Magray in Kulgam amid ongoing security operations. The party emphasized that while ensuring security is essential, safeguarding civilian lives must remain a top priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe fully recognize the seriousness of the situation and acknowledge that investigations and security operations can take time,\u201d Senior AIP Leader and MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed said. \u201cHowever, it is equally crucial that no innocent civilian is made to pay the price during the pursuit of terrorists. Our concerns in this regard have been conveyed without ambiguity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheikh Khursheed also reacted to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, expressing profound sorrow and solidarity with the victims. \u201cThe pain inflicted by the Pahalgam attack is unbearable. As Kashmiris, we understand their suffering more deeply than anyone else, having endured such tragedies for more than thirty years,\u201d he said. \u201cWe demand justice \u2014 not just against the perpetrators but also for those who may face undue harassment under the guise of response measures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AIP Senior Leader and MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed added, \u201cThe death of young Imtiaz Ahmad Magray is not just a statistic. It reflects a larger issue where civilians become collateral in a high-handed approach. We want accountability, not just condolences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, AIP castigated political leaders who have made irresponsible and insensitive remarks in the past, contributing to an atmosphere of fear and marginalization. “When PDP President Mehbooba Mufti trivializes public pain with comments about ‘milk and toffees’, or when National Conference President Farooq Abdullah irresponsibly suggests local involvement in attacks without evidence, or when Peoples Conference President Sajad Lone dismisses every act as \u2018non-spontaneous\u2019 \u2014 it creates a narrative that devalues and endangers civilian lives,\u201d the party noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reaffirming its commitment to civil rights and democratic values, AIP urged the administration to uphold transparency and justice. \u201cThe truth must come out and those accountable \u2014 be they state or non-state actors \u2014 must face the law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
