Waripora, Handwara, August 17: Jamia Islamia Institute, Waripora Gonipora, Handwara, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), J&K, Srinagar, organised a Drug De-Addiction and First Aid Awareness Programme today to sensitise students and the local community about the growing menace of drug abuse and the importance of basic first-aid knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The awareness programme was organised with the approval and support of the Hon\u2019ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha Ji, and witnessed the participation of members of the Jamia Islamia Managing Committee, civil society representatives, police officials and a team of doctors from Government Medical College (GMC), Handwara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. G. A. Qureshi, Honorary Treasurer, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, addressed the gathering and highlighted the humanitarian role of the Red Cross in promoting health, safety, first aid and social awareness. He urged students to remain vigilant against substance abuse and to become responsible members of society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Managing Committee of Jamia Islamia Institute, under the chairmanship of Mr. Ab Ahad Malik, extended its support to the initiative and appreciated the efforts of the Indian Red Cross Society in conducting such meaningful awareness programmes for students and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the occasion, the SHO Handwara stressed the serious social and legal consequences of drug abuse. He urged students to stay away from drugs, choose positive company and immediately seek help if they or anyone around them faces the risk of substance abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A team of doctors from Government Medical College, Handwara, also participated in the programme and delivered an informative session on first aid, basic emergency response and the importance of timely medical assistance. The students were encouraged to develop basic first-aid skills so that they can respond responsibly during emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Jamia Islamia Institute, Er. Basharat Bashir Mir, said that drug abuse is not merely an individual problem but a serious threat to families, educational institutions and society as a whole. He called upon parents, teachers, religious institutions, civil society and government agencies to work collectively to protect the younger generation from the menace of drugs. He emphasised that awareness, counselling, strong family support and positive engagement of youth are essential in preventing substance abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme also provided an interactive platform for students, who actively participated in the awareness sessions and expressed keen interest in learning about drug prevention and first-aid practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Administrator, Jamia Islamia Institute, Mr. Naseer Ahmad Peer, who expressed gratitude to the Indian Red Cross Society J&K, Mr. G. A. Qureshi, the doctors\u2019 team from GMC Handwara, SHO Handwara, the civil society representatives, the Managing Committee and all participants for making the programme successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
