With the Lok Sabha Speaker formally accepting the resignation of Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi from Lok Sabha constituency Srinagar. it is important to understand that the Rupture did not occur in Vaccum. Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi has been battling the ideological clash since the day Omar Abdullah took oath as the CM of union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Although Mehdi Cited ideological differences predominantly he also said that the U-Turn of Govt on 370 and Reservation issue were also the reasons for his decision but the root cause still leans towards the mutual disagreement on the ideological front.
The way Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi submitted his resignation created a political turmoil in Kashmir particularly when he symbolically submitted resignation in the hands of Muhammad Ashraf Mattu the father of Late Tufail Mattu ,killed in 2010 igniting the unrest in the region. This is important as not only did Aga Ruhullah Mehdi Resign but it also symbolised that he does not align himself with the policies and ideology of National conference anymore. Even if we consider this symbolic resignation in good faith but certainly in the areana of political discourse it raises many questions that need to be answered.
It is worth noting that during the death of Tufail Mattu in 2010 Mehdi himself was in the cabinet of NC government and MLA from Budgam, so therefore the responsibility was collectively on the Government of which Mehdi himself was a part. Alienating After 16 years does not justify handwashing of the responsibilities.
Second, even though Ruhullah Mehdi must not have been happy with the response of the government and its policies but at the same time he continued his support for NC for more than a decade and after 16 years of that unfortunate incident he has decided to scratch the old wound and use that to make a Political Statement for new issues he has with the government.
Further contradiction lie in the party’s choice of candidates. The 2010 SSP of srinagar Javed Reyaz bedar who served at the time tufail mattoo was killed and was transferred by the then NC government Joined the same NC Govt in 2018 and coincidently is serving as MLA in this Government under NC’s Umbrella. If Mehdi had an ideology difference, did he question the Joining of Javed Reyaz Bedar ?
These questions expose the most uncomfortable truth of whether the blood and death of innocents is just a tool in the hands of Politicians to be used only when they dont agree with policies of their peers?
Syed Aga Ruhullah claimed that he has been approached by many other political parties after his resignation from NC therefore it will be interesting to see which party he joins and whether any party surrenders to his demads such as striving for Restoration of 370 and policy on Reservation. Will he be welcomed by other political parties along with his Demads or will it turn out to be his exit from mainstream party politics and end up being an independent candidate for the rest of his political journey ?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
