Baramulla 28 Jan…// I listened to the live broadcast of the Hon’ble MLA Baramulla on NQ News Urdu . While it is encouraging that tens of crores are being spent on the Kandi area, and I fully support development there, it is deeply disappointing that no meaningful, visionary project was discussed for Baramulla town itself.
The MLA highlighted tap water projects from Botapathri to Kandi areas, yet nothing was said about Baramulla, which continues to depend on processed water lifted from the heavily polluted Jhelum. Except out of sheer compulsion, nobody prefers to consume this water. If a distance of just 12 kilometers is truly “no big difference,” then why does the scale of investment make that distance feel larger than the Himalayas?
In healthcare, Chandosa Sub-District Hospital has rightly been prioritized. But what about GMC Baramulla? A premier institution serving the entire North Kashmir still lacks critical departments such as Neurology and Cardiology. There has been no visible progress. Internal rifts have already driven away many brilliant professionals who once nurtured and strengthened this iconic institution ,a loss not just for Baramulla, but for the entire region.
Infrastructure paints an equally grim picture.
Baramulla remains one of the most constrained towns in terms of routes and resources. Yet with vision, courage, and commitment, even limitations can be transformed into opportunities. We possess enormous potential in sports, education, and religious tourism , but where are the Nursing Colleges, the IIT, the NIT, or any serious investment in human capital?
It feels as if we are quietly losing our future. This must be a wake-up call. Development cannot be achieved by shifting priorities from one area to another. Real progress comes from solving real problems with clarity, fairness, and long-term planning.
I still believe Baramulla can reclaim its lost glory and strategic importance , but only if rational, balanced development becomes our guiding principle. Development should create dignity, employment, opportunity, and hope for our youth.
Parts of Rafiabad are now within our constituency. The people there are not second-class citizens. They deserve the same infrastructure, the same assets, and the same attention as Kandi and other favored areas. They have waited patiently ,and their turn must come.
Baramulla does not need sympathy.
Baramulla needs vision, justice, and decisive action.
The time to act is now.
