Baramulla 1 Feb… //Yasir Naik, Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed deep concern and strong condemnation over the repeated incidents of harassment, physical assault, and humiliation of innocent Kashmiri workers in Himachal Pradesh. He stated that this is the fourth such incident reported from the state, exposing a disturbing pattern rather than isolated acts.
“Despite repeated assurances given on media platforms that Kashmiris are safe outside Jammu and Kashmir, the ground reality tells a completely different story. Each new day brings a new incident, proving that verbal assurances and media bites have failed to protect Kashmiri citizens,” Yasir Naik said.
He questioned the silence and inaction of the leadership, particularly the Chief Minister of J&K, and urged him to move beyond statements. “Why has there been no official visit to Himachal Pradesh to engage directly with the state government? Why is there no institutional mechanism or inter-state coordination to ensure the safety of Kashmiri workers?” he asked.
Yasir Naik highlighted that the current situation is a direct consequence of unfulfilled promises made before elections. “The government promised employment generation in Jammu and Kashmir. Those promises remain largely unmet. Due to unemployment and economic distress, thousands of poor Kashmiris are compelled to migrate to other states for daily-wage work, where they are now facing harassment, violence, and discrimination,” he said.
He further stressed that Kashmiris are citizens of India and enjoy equal constitutional rights. “Article 19 of the Constitution guarantees freedom of movement and the right to reside and work anywhere in the country. Targeting Kashmiris, branding them, or subjecting them to violence is a serious violation of constitutional guarantees and human rights,” he added.
Calling for immediate and concrete steps, Yasir Naik demanded:
A formal intervention by the J&K government with the Himachal Pradesh government.
Registration of FIRs and strict legal action against all perpetrators involved in these attacks.
A dedicated helpline and legal support mechanism for Kashmiri workers outside J&K.
Appointment of nodal officers in other states to address grievances of migrant Kashmiri workers.
Long-term employment and livelihood generation within J&K to prevent forced migration.
“You have 50 MLAs and a strong mandate. This is not a time for symbolic statements but for clear policy, strategy, and political will. The dignity, safety, and lives of Kashmiri people cannot be compromised,” Yasir Naik asserted.
He concluded by saying, “Kashmiri people have the right to walk freely, work with dignity, and live without fear anywhere in the country. Ensuring that right is not charity, it is the constitutional and moral responsibility of the government. Silence and delay will only embolden such elements and deepen alienation.”
