Voice of a New Generation: Politics Beyond Social Media Optics

✒️ :. Yasir Naik /Baramulla

In every generation, politics changes its language, its tools, and its style. The politics of today is far different from the politics of the past. Earlier, leaders had to travel from village to village, spend years building communication networks, and struggle to make their voices heard beyond their locality. Today, a smartphone and internet connection can connect a young individual from a remote village to the entire world within seconds. Social media has transformed politics into a space where every citizen can speak, question, criticize, and raise public grievances without waiting for permission from anyone.

This digital revolution has empowered the youth in an unprecedented way. A student sitting in a small town can now discuss national issues, expose corruption, highlight local problems, or inspire thousands through a single post or video. The internet has broken barriers of distance and privilege. Politics is no longer limited to closed rooms or influential families. It has become accessible to every determined young mind willing to contribute to society. However, while entering politics has become easier, surviving and succeeding in politics remains as difficult as ever.Today many youngsters are attracted towards politics because they see glamour around it. They see security vehicles, VIP protocols, social media popularity, hooters, entourages, and reels that create an illusion of instant power and influence.

Unfortunately, many mistake visibility for leadership. Politics is not about appearing important it is about becoming useful to the people.Real politics demands patience, sacrifice, discipline, and consistency. Anyone who wishes to enter public life must understand one fundamental truth: politics is a long journey, not an overnight achievement. A serious political worker must prepare mentally for at least ten years of continuous hard work at the grassroots level. There are no shortcuts to public trust. Leadership is not gifted through viral videos or temporary fame. It is earned slowly through dedication, public service, and standing with people during difficult times.Every successful political leader once started from zero.

History shows that many of the strongest leaders faced defeats before achieving success. Elections were lost, criticism was faced, and failures became stepping stones for greater victories. Defeat in politics is not the end of a career often it is the beginning of maturity and experience. The youth must learn that setbacks are part of leadership, not a reason to quit.Modern politics also requires intellectual growth. A young political worker today must not only know slogans but also understand governance, law, economics, education, unemployment, healthcare, and social issues.

The public no longer wants leaders who only speak loudly; they want leaders who think deeply and act responsibly. In the age of information, knowledge itself has become political strength.Politics should never be reduced to self promotion. The true purpose of politics is public service and social transformation. A youth entering this field should have clear ambitions and vision. One should dream of becoming a Councillor, Mayor, MLA, MP, or Minister not for status, but for the opportunity to bring meaningful change in society. Positions are not decorations; they are responsibilities. The new generation must understand that politics is not a stage for ego satisfaction.

It is a field where one has to listen more than speak, serve more than show, and sacrifice more than celebrate. Real leaders are remembered not because of the number of followers they had online, but because of the number of lives they positively impacted on the ground. Our youth possess energy, creativity, and courage. If this energy is guided with patience and purpose, it can reshape the future of our society and strengthen democracy. The nation does not merely need young faces in politics it needs young minds with vision, character, and commitment. The future of politics belongs to those who are willing to stay consistent when there is no applause, work honestly when there is no spotlight, and remain connected to the people even without power. That is where true leadership begins.
