Amid Liquor Ban Demands, Govt Invites Bids for 83 New Liquor Shops

Jammu, March 12, KDC: The Jammu and Kashmir Excise Department has invited bids for the re-auction of 34 retail liquor shops across various locations in Jammu. The e-auction is scheduled to take place on March 15, starting from 9:00 AM onwards.

According to the newly formulated Excise Policy 2025-26, a total of 305 locations were identified for liquor vends in the Union Territory in the year 2023. The policy aims to streamline the liquor trade by ensuring transparency in allotment and maximizing revenue generation for the government.Officials stated that the re-auction process is part of efforts to fill vacant slots from the previous bidding rounds and to provide a fair opportunity to new bidders.

The e-auction will be conducted through an online portal, allowing participants to place their bids in real time.Interested bidders have been urged to review the eligibility criteria and procedural guidelines outlined by the Excise Department before participating.

The department has assured that the process will be conducted in a transparent and competitive manner.Meanwhile, the Economic Survey Report presented in the assembly indicates that revenue from liquor sales is rising, with excise earnings projected to reach ₹2,000 crore in 2024-25 due to the government’s push for new outlets.
