Srinagar, May 24:Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Senior Leader and MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed expressed deep concern over what he called “unjustified and avoidable suffering” being inflicted upon pilgrims. “It is unacceptable that pilgrims who have paid nearly ₹65,000 more than those flying directly from Delhi are forced into exhausting delays under unbearable conditions,” he said. “This reflects a serious lapse in planning and a clear case of insensitivity towards the elderly and devout.” Sheikh Khursheed further added that repeated appeals for a smoother journey, including efforts to ensure a stopover in Madina, were ignored despite exhaustive attempts with relevant authorities.
Adding to the woes, pilgrims from JK in Saudi Arabia have reported dismal living conditions. “Contrary to the tall promises made by the Haj Committee at Srinagar, the ground reality is disheartening,” said Sheikh Khursheed. “Pilgrims are crammed into small, suffocating rooms with inadequate washroom facilities and no basic amenities.” He called the situation a reflection of “gross mismanagement.” AIP has urged authorities to intervene immediately and ensure that pilgrims are treated with the dignity, care, and respect they deserve on this sacred journey.
