Shopian Police Unearth Alleged Terror Funding Syndicate with Prison-Based Links; 10 Suspects Apprehended

Digital Financial Trail Exposes Alleged LeT-TRF Funding Conduit; Police Intensify Probe into Wider Network

Shopian, Oct 30th (CNS): Shopian Police have dismantled an alleged clandestine terror-financing syndicate with suspected linkages to incarcerated terrorists and their associates, arresting 10 persons following an extensive investigation into suspicious monetary transactions.

Police sources said that forensic scrutiny of digital payment records and online financial transactions enabled investigators to penetrate a complex network allegedly engaged in collecting and transferring funds through multiple financial intermediaries for sustaining terrorist activities.

The investigation reportedly exposed an interconnected chain of individuals suspected of facilitating the movement of illicit funds, with alleged operational connections extending to terrorist operatives and their associates lodged in various correctional facilities.

The arrested accused, booked under FIR No. 231/2026 at Police Station Shopian, have been identified as Owais Shafi Naikoo of Saidpora Bala, Tajamul Ahmad Shah of Rawalpora, Moiz Iqbal and Imdad Yousuf Ganie of Chitragam Kalan, Saqib Zahoor Wani and Liyaqat Nazir Lone of Murran, Aamir Ahmad Ganie of Armolah, Firdous Thokar of Nadigund Trenz, and Mohd Hanief and Kaju of Check Haria, Kathua.

Preliminary findings, police said, indicate that the accused were allegedly procuring monetary contributions from unsuspecting members of the public and clandestinely funnelling the proceeds through established financial channels to finance the activities of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its affiliated outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF).

Investigators further suspect that the funds were being utilised to provide logistical facilitation to terrorist operatives, including the procurement of smartphones and other communication-related equipment.

Police said the investigation has been expanded to trace the complete financial circuitry, identify additional conduits and establish the extent of the alleged conspiracy. Further arrests are anticipated as the probe progresses.

The crackdown underscores the intensified efforts of J&K Police and allied security agencies to dismantle the financial lifelines of terrorism, neutralise clandestine support structures and intercept unlawful funding mechanisms operating across Jammu and Kashmir. (CNS)
