Girl Jumps in Jhelum Reservoir at Boniyar, Rescue Operation Underway

Baramulla, July 8 (JKNS): A girl jumped into the Jhelum reservoir at Peerniya, Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports reaching news agency JKNS that the incident took place at around 12:30 PM when the girl, accompanied by a boy, was spotted near the Damm reservoir site at Lower Jehlum Hydro Power Project in Preeniya Boniya.

As per initial reports, the girl suddenly jumped into the river and drowned in the water, while boy ran away from the spot.

Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched by police teams led by SDPO Uri and SHO Boniyar, along with SDRF personnel. Efforts are underway to retrieve the body.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation is in progress. (JKNS)
