JKGBYWC Urges Government Intervention for Surankote Labourers Injured in Punjab Cylinder Blast

JAMMU – The Jammu & Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Youth Welfare Conference (JKGBYWC) has issued an urgent appeal to the government to provide immediate financial relief and medical assistance to six labourers from Surankote who were critically injured in a devastating cylinder blast in Punjab. The victims, all residents of Village Sanglani in the Surankote Tehsil of Poonch District, were working as daily-wage labourers in Punjab to support their families when the tragedy struck.
The incident occurred at their rented accommodation in Jakhwali Pind while the men were preparing a meal. A gas cylinder exploded leaving all six individuals with severe injuries. The victims, identified as Abdul Wahid, Rafiq Ahmed, Farzhad Ahmed, Ikhtiaz Ahmed, Abdul Rashid, and Nazakat Hussain, are currently undergoing intensive treatment at Rajendra Hospital in Patiala, where their condition remains a matter of grave concern.
In a joint statement, Zahid Parwaz Choudhary, State President of JKGBYWC, alongside Jammu Provincial Leader Zahoor Ahmed Kasana and Murtaza Kohli, highlighted the dire socio-economic circumstances of the affected families. The leaders emphasized that these men belong to impoverished backgrounds and were the sole breadwinners for their households, having traveled far from their homes in Poonch to earn a humble living. With no steady income or savings to fall back on, the families now find themselves in a desperate position, unable to afford the escalating costs of specialized medical treatment and long-term care.
The JKGBYWC leadership has officially called upon the District Administration of Poonch and the Jammu & Kashmir Government to intervene immediately. They have urged the authorities to coordinate directly with the Punjab administration to ensure the victims receive the highest standard of medical care. Furthermore, the organization is demanding an emergency financial relief package to cover medical expenses and the total loss of livelihood, alongside logistical support for the family members who have traveled to Patiala to attend to the injured. The JKGBYWC remains committed to standing by the victims and stresses that the government must act swiftly on humanitarian grounds to prevent further tragedy for these marginalized families.
