Baramulla 30 Dec : Youth Leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party, Yasir Naik, has raised serious concern over the growing menace of drug abuse at Cariappa Park in Baramulla, once considered a safe and lively public space for families and young people.
Cariappa Park has remained under renovation for several years without completion. This prolonged neglect has left the area vulnerable. Miscreants have taken advantage of the situation and turned the park into a hotspot for substance abuse.
The park premises are now littered with alcohol bottles and used drug injection syringes. This poses a serious threat to public health and safety. Children, morning walkers, and nearby residents face constant risk due to the hazardous waste scattered across the area.
Expressing concern, Yasir Naik said the delay in completing the renovation has directly contributed to the rise in anti social activities. He said abandoned public spaces often become centers for crime and drug abuse.
Naik said drug abuse cannot be controlled through events, roadshows, or speeches alone. He stressed that awareness without action on the ground delivers no results. He called for collective responsibility, urging parents to remain vigilant, teachers to mentor students, religious scholars to speak against drug abuse, and the administration to ensure strict monitoring and enforcement.
He warned that society cannot afford to lose its younger generation to drugs. He said failure to act decisively today will lead to irreversible damage in the future.
Yasir Naik urged the district administration to immediately complete the renovation of Cariappa Park, enhance security through regular patrolling, install adequate lighting and CCTV cameras, and restore the park for safe public use. He also appealed to civil society and local residents to actively safeguard public spaces and stand united against drug abuse.
