Baramulla 03 Jan… /// Amid ongoing construction and repeated landslides on the Uri Baramulla road, a local youth leader’s proposal for an alternate route has moved into official consideration.
On Friday, youth leader and YJKPC District President Zubair Meer visited the Jehlum Valley Road connecting Khadniyar and Gantamulla. He assessed its feasibility as a temporary alternative during the ongoing work on the Uri Baramulla stretch. He inspected multiple sections, identifying portions that require immediate improvement and others that are already motorable.
Speaking to the media after the visit, Meer urged authorities to seriously explore the Jehlum Valley Road as an alternate route. He highlighted the daily hardship faced by schoolchildren, patients, daily wage earners, and shopkeepers who depend on the affected road.
On Wednesday, a review meeting chaired by Cabinet Minister Javed Ahmad Dar was held in Baramulla to examine the proposal. Officials discussed the viability of the Jehlum Valley Road and agreed to conduct further reviews focusing on upgrades and safety measures.
The move follows frequent disruptions on the Uri Baramulla road caused by construction activity and landslides. These disruptions have raised safety concerns and caused persistent inconvenience to commuters.
Local observers say the development reflects the importance of field level assessment and direct engagement between public representatives and the administration.
Residents now await concrete action, hoping for timely decisions and improvements to ensure safer and smoother travel during the ongoing road work.
