Kashmiri lady scholar secures All India 2nd rank in NET JRF Urdu

Handwara: Bringing pride to north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Yasmeena Auyoob of Bicherwara Kralgund, Handwara, has secured the second rank at the all-India level in the UGC NET JRF examination in Urdu, marking a major academic achievement.

Yasmeena, daughter of Mohammad Auyoob Bhat, qualified the National Eligibility Test Junior Research Fellowship conducted by the University Grants Commission through the National Testing Agency. She achieved the JRF with an impressive 99.9 percentile, placing her among the top performers nationwide.

An academically consistent student, Yasmeena completed her graduation from Women’s College Baramulla in 2020, securing first rank. She later earned her postgraduate degree in Urdu from the University of Kashmir in December 2022 with 74.5 percent marks. In 2023, she also qualified the JKSET examination and subsequently secured admission for PhD studies at Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi.

Yasmeena had earlier qualified the UGC NET in June 2025, but this attempt proved decisive as she successfully cleared the JRF category. The UGC NET for December 2025 and June 2025 cycles was conducted jointly by the National Testing Agency, with over 12 lakh candidates registered across the country. The examination covered 85 subjects at more than 800 centres spread across 239 cities in India.

Speaking about her achievement, Yasmeena told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that success is rooted in hard work, determination, patience, consistency and sacrifice. She expressed gratitude to her parents for their constant encouragement and support throughout her academic journey.

Her parents also expressed happiness over her success, praising her dedication and perseverance, and said her achievement would inspire other students from the region to pursue higher education and research. [KNT]
