MLA Doda Mehraj Malik Walks Free from Kathua Jail After PSA Quash by HC

Srinagar, Apr 28: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Doda, Mehraj Malik, was released on Tuesday morning from Kathua Jail following the quashing of his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) by the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

As per details available with news agency JKNS, Malik was set free after completion of legal formalities on Tuesday morning.

The High Court on Monday had set aside the PSA detention order after hearing a habeas corpus petition challenging his preventive custody under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act.

Mehraj Malik, who also serves as the head of AAP’s J&K unit, was detained on September 8, 2025, on allegations related to activities prejudicial to public order and was subsequently lodged in Kathua district jail.

The case had been heard over multiple dates in the High Court, which had reserved its judgment on February 23 after concluding arguments from both sides.

With the detention order now quashed, Malik’s release was carried out on Tuesday morning, officials said, adding that he will not face custody unless required in any other matter. (JKNS)
