Poonch, July 19: A deadly flash flood triggered by heavy rainfall has left a trail of destruction across Surankote tehsil in Poonch district, claiming 14 lives while several people remain missing. Floodwaters swept through villages, washing away houses, vehicles, roads and bridges, leaving hundreds of families affected.
The Indian Army has been at the forefront of the rescue mission, carrying out search operations in the worst-hit Dara Sangla area, where several bodies have been recovered and stranded civilians rescued. The Army, assisted by the Jammu & Kashmir Police (JKP), SDRF, Civil Administration and local volunteers, continues to search for the missing and provide relief to affected residents.
The district administration has appealed to the public to stay away from rivers, streams and other vulnerable areas, as rescue operations continue and authorities work to restore normalcy.
