Press Note

Baramulla | July 29, 2026
Continuing its sustained campaign against the drug menace, Baramulla Police today conducted wild cannabis (bhang) destruction drives at multiple locations across the district as part of its efforts to eliminate the source of narcotic substances.
One drive was carried out at Lagama, Uri, where police personnel identified and destroyed wild cannabis plants growing naturally in the area. In a separate operation, another destruction drive was conducted along the roadside at Village Noorkhah Crossing within the jurisdiction of Police Station Bijhama, where wild cannabis plants were also uprooted and destroyed.
These proactive operations are aimed at preventing the misuse of wild cannabis for the production of illicit narcotic substances, discouraging illegal cultivation, and safeguarding the younger generation from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Baramulla Police remains committed to a zero-tolerance approach against drugs through sustained enforcement, public awareness, and community participation. The general public is urged to remain vigilant and share any information regarding the illegal cultivation, possession, or trafficking of narcotic substances with the nearest police station so that prompt legal action can be taken.
Baramulla Police appreciates the continued support and cooperation of the public in its collective mission to build a drug-free society
