Newly appointed IGP reviews security arrangements in Srinagar, during Friday following of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi SAW
Srinagar, Aug 28 : Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone Sujit Kumar on Friday said that anti-militancy operations remain the force’s “first priority” and will continue to remain so, while seeking public cooperation in maintaining law and order across the Valley.
Speaking to reporters during his maiden ground visit in Srinagar, where he reviewed security and coordination arrangements in view of the Friday congregational prayers.
“Our operations were the first priority in the past, and they remain the first priority today as well,” IGP Sujit as per news agency JKNS, said, when asked about the recent increase in counter-insurgency operations in Kashmir.
He said multiple operations had been conducted across Kashmir in recent days, during which significant recoveries were made.
The IGP also reviewed the coordination between police and other security agencies at various locations in Srinagar where large congregations were expected for Friday prayers.
“I joined you yesterday, and today we are here first, to assess the coordination of our police team and other agencies,” he said, adding that similar coordination was being reviewed in other parts of Srinagar witnessing larger congregations.
Kumar also extended greetings to the people and appealed for their cooperation in maintaining peace and law and order, acknowledging that security arrangements could sometimes make movement difficult for the public.
“Many people are offering prayers today, so we seek your cooperation. We understand movement is difficult for the public,” he said.
The IGP assured people that the Kashmir Zonal Police remains committed to their safety and security.
“I congratulate everyone and want to assure the people that the Zonal Police is always there for you,” Kumar said.
