Delina is a very beautiful village. I love my village very much. Delina has produced many great personalities, such as Qazi Abdul Ghani, Tanha Ansari, Nishat Ansari, Ismael Nisar Rather, Qazi Hilal Delinavi, etc. Delina’s total population is roughly over 20,000.
Delina is regarded as an educational hub. There are many schools and a university campus in Delina. Government Higher School Delina is centrally located and was established in 1906. It has a beautiful playground where young boys play different games such as cricket, volleyball, and football. My brother plays cricket, and I play football there.
In Delina, the mohallas are mostly named after castes, such as Paray Mohalla, Qazi Mohalla, Rather Pora, etc. Delina has 27 mosques, including one grand central Jamia Masjid, where all the people of Delina offer Friday prayers. This unity makes Delina famous. The longest flyover is being constructed in Delina.
The River Jhelum passes along one side of Delina. The neighbouring villages of Delina are Kanispora, Sangrama, Chinad, Singhpora, Darpora, etc.
There are two stories about the origin of the name Delina. One story says that a Muslim saint passed through Delina, liked the place, and told his disciples, “Dil Lehh,” meaning that the place had touched his heart. He stayed here for some years, and over time, “Dil Lehh” became “Delna.” Another story says that the place was known for a famous person named Dila Raam, and the name later changed to Delina.
Delina has some problems, but the biggest problem is the shortage of drinking water. The people of Delina have been demanding clean drinking water, but they receive very little or sometimes no water at all. Dust caused by the flyover construction is another problem. The mohalla roads are not macadamised. There is also no big playground.
I request the government to please look into these problems and take necessary steps to solve them, as the people of Delina are peace-loving.
