Anantnag: october, 31:: National Conference (NC) senior leader and Vice President Anantnag, Imran Amin Shah today visited the Maternity Hospital at Sherbagh, Anantnag, where he interacted with chemists, shopkeepers and other people associated with the hospital area to understand the concerns surrounding the future of the existing facility.
During the interaction, Shah was informed that the existing hospital at Sherbagh continues to serve patients and that there is strong demand among local stakeholders for the facility to remain functional rather than being closed.
The shopkeepers and chemists urged that the existing Sherbagh hospital be retained and formally handed over to the J&K Health and Medical Education Department for continued public healthcare services.
They further suggested that, instead of shutting down the existing facility, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag should construct a new dedicated Maternity and Child Care Hospital at a suitable location, while the Sherbagh facility continues to cater to the healthcare needs of the people.
Imran Shah assured those present that their concerns would be conveyed to the concerned authorities and emphasised that any decision regarding the hospital should be taken in the larger public interest, keeping in view the healthcare needs of Anantnag and surrounding areas.
He said that existing public healthcare infrastructure should not be allowed to go waste and that every effort must be made to ensure that patients continue to have accessible maternity and child healthcare services in Anantnag.
