Adv. Maroof Khan Calls for People-Centric Governance, Dignity and Accountability in Government Offices

Srinagar, Friday: Adv. Maroof Khan, Political Youth Leader, has urged the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to establish a strong precedent of people-centric governance by ensuring that every citizen visiting a government office is treated with dignity, respect and fairness.

Reacting to a video circulating on social media showing an IAS officer allegedly misbehaving with a woman officer, Khan said the incident highlights the importance of maintaining professionalism, mutual respect and discipline in public service.

He emphasised that government offices exist to serve the people, and every citizen approaching an office with a genuine grievance must be heard patiently and their issues addressed promptly, without bias, discrimination or unnecessary delays.

Adv. Maroof Khan called upon the government to issue clear directions to all departments to ensure courteous public dealing, transparency and accountability. He also stressed that junior officers and subordinate employees must be treated with respect and protected from harassment, intimidation and undue pressure.

“Every public servant, irrespective of rank or designation, has a responsibility towards the people. No citizen should feel neglected or humiliated while seeking assistance from a government office. Respect, fairness and timely redressal of grievances must be the guiding principles of administration,” Khan said.

He concluded by stating that good governance is not only about administrative decisions and official orders, but also about how the public is treated. He urged the government to strengthen public trust by ensuring that every citizen receives equal treatment, dignity and a fair opportunity to have their concerns addressed.
