Non-gazetted employees of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla have launched an indefinite peaceful protest, demanding the framing of recruitment rules that have remained pending for the past seven years.
The employees said that during their previous protest, the administration had assured them that the recruitment rules would be finalized within three months. However, the deadline passed without any progress.
The protesters said they will continue their agitation until a senior authority from the administration or Health Department, including the Health Secretary, gives a concrete assurance on the issue.
Employees allege that the prolonged delay has stalled fresh recruitment in newly established medical colleges, leaving several institutions facing staff shortages of nearly 50 percent.
They said the shortage is increasing the workload on existing employees and affecting patient care and hospital services.
