Police Crack Theft Case Within 12 Hours; Stolen Steel Recovered, Two Arrested

Baramulla Police have worked out a theft case within 12 hours of its registration, recovering the stolen property and arresting two accused persons in connection with the theft of steel from an under-construction National Highway camp site at Rengi.

On September 11, 2026, FIR No. 213/2026 under Section 303(2) of the BNS was registered on the basis of a written complaint lodged by S&P Infrastructure Developers, the executing agency for the under-construction Srinagar–Baramulla National Highway, regarding the theft of 10 bundles of steel from its camp site at Rengi.

During investigation, acting on credible information, one suspect, namely Faroq Ahmad Mir, son of Habibullah Mir, resident of Wanigam Bala, was apprehended for questioning. During sustained questioning, he disclosed his involvement in the theft along with his accomplice Ghulam Hassan Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar, resident of Tawheed Bagh, Sopore. Both accused have been booked in the instant case, and the stolen property was subsequently recovered on the basis of their disclosure and identification.

A pickup vehicle bearing registration No. JK20B-9556, allegedly used in the commission of the offence, has also been seized. Further investigation into the case is in progress.
