Why I Chose Restraint Over Retaliation

✒️ : Javid Hassan Beigh

I remember on a particular occasion I had a heated argument with a PDP member in the assembly during a discussion when I was speaking. This party had strong social media support. Since they had no answers to my questions, they used their social media platforms to humiliate me by sharing my past speeches. They enjoyed it.

I had no such platform available to me. I was alone, and my small family felt helpless. I also had several videos of the speeches made by their towering leaders praising BJP leadership and demeaning the Kashmiris. But I restrained myself. I left my case to Allah.

Today, the PDP president has spoken something she should never have said. Extremely disappointing and unfortunate. The social media is damaging whatever little credibility the party was left with. It is a storm.I was approached by several journalists for my response.

“The best response to those who once mocked my mistake , (if at all it was )is not to mock theirs. Let their mistakes remind them of their own humanity, and let my restraint show the difference between revenge and character.
